According to the Togolese Minister of Mines and Energy, Dammipi Noupokou, Togo will be in the coming years, the first producer of cement in the West African sub-region, with its fourth production plant of cements whose construction was launched on Wednesday in Awandjélo-Kara in the north of the country by the Head of State, Faure Gnassingbe.
With an annual production of 200,000 tons of cement, Togo will satisfy the national and sub-regional market, which will place the country at the front of cement-producing countries in the west-Africa sub region
“This new production plant which first stone was put down during this week, is a complex that will take into account environmental standards of the World Bank”. Said Dammipi Noupokou the Minister of Mines and Energy.
The construction of this plant was funded by the German group Heidelberg-Cement up to $ 15 million, or about 10 billion FCFA francs. The construction works are supposed to end in 2017.
The German cement company HeidelbergCement has already in Togo three cement production unit called CIMTOGO, Granutogo and recently a large generation unit for the production of clinker named Scantogo which started production in the last quarter of 2014 and should be officially opened in March 2015.
HeidelbergCement has also completed the construction of a clinker plant in Sika-Condji from an investment of $ 250 million. The Production was estimated at 1.5 million tons per year.
HeidelbergCement is present in several African countries: DRC, Gabon, Benin, Tanzania, and Burkina Faso but also in Europe, America and Asia.
