Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe signed on Thursday January 24 a memorandum of understanding in the area of Justice, initiated by the ministers of the sector from both countries.
“There are gains, there are challenges and I think that through the memorandum of understanding, which we signed today, we are reflecting our concerns, ambitions and, above all, the will to share knowledge and technology,” despite some difficulties, said the Minister of Justice of São Tomé and Príncipe, Ilza Amado Vaz.
The minister ended a four-day visit to the Cape Verdean capital on Thursday.
The memorandum of understanding also provides for the two countries to work on strengthening the computerization of the judicial system, so that technology is at the service of the citizen, she added, in relation to an idea that is also shared by her Cape Verdean counterpart, Joana Rosa.
“I think we did an excellent job” with “a very interesting, complete agenda and today we can say that it was very worthwhile”, she stressed.
Joana Rosa added that the studies could advance particularly in the areas of police and financial intelligence, as well as the modernization of registries and notaries.
“We have many challenges. What we need is to work together,” said the Cape Verdean government official, noting that, based on the protocol signed, a working team will be set up, with focal points in Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, with a view to making it operational.
