Morocco was unanimously designated on Monday to the presidency of the Executive Council of the World Food Programme (WFP) for the year 2024.
The election of Morocco, represented by the Permanent Representative Ambassador of the Kingdom to the United Nations agencies in Rome, Youssef Balla, took place during the 1st regular session of this Council, which is being held from February 26 to 28 at the headquarters of the WFP in Rome. It is the first time in the history of this organization that Morocco presides over the Executive Council, which consists of 36 members. This reflects the trust placed in the Kingdom in the fields of food security and combating hunger at regional and international levels.
It is worth noting that Morocco, which has been a member of the Executive Board since December 2020, previously held the position of Vice President of the Board and also serves as the coordinator for African countries at the Bureau of this Board.
