UAE condemns attack on its mission in Khartoum as “cowardly”

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the violent attack carried out against the residence of the Emirati head of mission in Khartoum, claiminng that the attack was orchestrated by a Sudanese army aircraft and caused serious damage to the building.

Emirati authorities described the attack as “cowardly” and called on the Sudanese army to take full responsibility for the incident.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared, in an official statement, its intention to submit a formal complaint to the League of Arab States, the African Union, and the United Nations.

The Ministry stressed that this act constitutes a flagrant violation of the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises, a pillar of international law. This principle, enshrined in the conventions governing diplomatic relations, requires the absolute protection of diplomatic buildings and embassy staff residences.

The Ministry also expressed its firm condemnation of these criminal acts, and reiterated its total rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing security and stability, practices which are contrary to international law.

This position reaffirms the Emirates’ commitment to defending regional stability and protecting diplomatic personnel in an increasingly volatile climate in Sudan.

The United Arab Emirates, while maintaining a diplomatic line, insisted on the need to respect international treaties, and highlighted the urgency of an international response to this crisis.

Sudan’s military government has however refuted the UAE’ accusations that its forces have bombed the ambassador’s residence in Khartoum, pointing instead the finger at the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The government in Khartoum, which is in the midst of a new push to retake the capital, had previously accused the UAE of supporting the RSF, with which it has been entangled in war for more than a year.
