Indian President Droupadi Murmu will begin a seven-day tour of Africa on Sunday, October 13, visiting Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi. This trip reflects India’s commitment to strengthening ties with African nations and enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
Damu Ravi, the Secretary for Economic Relations in the Indian Government, emphasized the significance of the visit, noting its timing coincides with the African Union’s crucial role as a G20 member—a position India has held since last year. This underscores Africa’s growing global influence and India’s acknowledgment of the continent’s importance in international relations.
Ravi highlighted Africa’s central role in the Global South, a coalition focused on equitable development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on advancing the Global South agenda to foster partnerships for economic growth and sustainable development.
Ravi reiterated that the partnership between India and Africa is vital for the Global South’s overall development, with bilateral trade currently standing at around $100 billion annually. President Murmu’s tour will facilitate discussions on trade, technology, and sustainable development, further solidifying India’s strategic partnership with African nations.
