Former Arsenal and Ghana international footballer Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail on Tuesday, August 5, after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on charges relating to multiple sexual offences.
The 32-year-old faces five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman, with the alleged incidents occurring between 2021 and 2022 during his time at the London club. He was charged just four days after his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June. Partey is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 2 September.
Dressed in a black jumper and trousers, Partey appeared composed in court, confirming his identity and understanding the terms of his bail, which prohibit contact with the complainants and require notification of any permanent address or international travel. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that he “denies all the charges” and looks forward to clearing his name. Meanwhile, the midfielder is reportedly preparing to sign with Spanish side Villarreal on a one-year deal, with an option to extend. The charges stem from a police investigation that began in February 2022.
