At least six civilians were killed on Sunday, September 7, when Boko Haram militants staged coordinated raids on three communities in Cameroon’s Far North region, security officials and local residents confirmed.
The attackers stormed the localities of Onzal, Mandoussa and Modoko for more than three hours, setting ablaze homes, a hospital and other properties. Disturbing images shared online showed the scale of destruction as panicked villagers fled into the bush to escape the onslaught.
Witnesses recounted scenes of chaos as militants fired indiscriminately, killing those unable to flee and abducting several others, including children. Security sources say the assault underscores the group’s persistent presence in the area, where it has mounted deadly raids against both civilians and soldiers since 2014. The latest attack has renewed fears of escalating insecurity in the region, where communities remain highly vulnerable to insurgent violence.
