Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced on Tuesday, October 22, that the country will introduce an electronic visa system by 2026 to streamline visa processing and enhance trade, diplomacy, and investment.
Speaking at the MOBEX Africa Tech Expo and Innovation Conference 2025 in Accra, Ablakwa said the initiative forms part of efforts to modernise Ghana’s diplomatic services in line with global digital trends. He noted that the e-visa system will make it easier for investors, technologists, and business professionals to visit and operate in Ghana.
The minister also outlined broader digital initiatives by the foreign ministry, including digital consular services for Ghanaians abroad and virtual diplomatic engagements to expand reach and cut costs.
Addressing the Conference theme, “Resetting Africa’s Digital Identity and Sovereignty,” Ablakwa emphasised the need for African nations to harness technology for transformation, particularly to support the African Continental Free Trade Area through strong digital connectivity.
He added that Ghana is working with other African countries to bridge the digital divide by reducing barriers to cross-border digital services and ensuring mutual recognition of digital credentials.
