Tinubu Secures APC Nomination for Nigeria’s 2027 Presidential Election

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to contest for a second term after emerging as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.

Tinubu’s nomination was confirmed following the party’s primary in Abuja, where he defeated businessman Stanley Osifo, the only other contender in the race. The APC described the process as a demonstration of its internal democratic credentials.

The ruling party, which currently controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states, has expanded its influence since the 2023 elections amid a series of defections from opposition parties. Since assuming office in 2023, Tinubu has implemented a number of economic reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and attracting foreign investment.

Several opposition parties are expected to hold their own primaries in the coming days to select candidates who will challenge Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election.
