Northern Cameroon: Suspected Boko Haram attack kills 13 civilians

At least 13 civilians were killed and another injured in a suspected Boko Haram attack in Cameroon’s Far North region on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The assault occurred between 1 am and 2 am in Madegoua, a community in the Makary subdivision of the Logone-et-Chari division, while residents were asleep. An unnamed official said the militants killed the victims at the scene. The sole survivor was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Municipal authorities believe the attack was retaliation for the seizure of a large consignment of ammunition intended for Boko Haram fighters several months earlier. Boko Haram has operated in Cameroon’s Far North region since 2014, causing extensive casualties and property damage.
