Togo’s Government has ordered audiovisual service distributors to make public Television and Radio channels freely accessible to subscribers within 30 days. The directive was contained in a circular issued by Communications Minister Yawa Ahofa Kouigan and reported on September 19, 2026.
Under Article 36 of Law No. 2019-016, enacted on October 30, 2019, distributors must provide subscribers with free access to public audiovisual media services. The minister said channels including Togolese Television, Radio Lomé and Radio Kara were not consistently available free of charge across all platforms. Canal+ and New World TV are the two audiovisual distributors operating in Togo.
Distributors must report the measures taken to the Communications Ministry after the deadline. Companies that fail to comply will be referred to the regulatory authority for further action.
