AFCON 2024: Algeria knocked out of Africa Cup of Nations by Mauritania

Algeria has suffered a humiliating exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, taking place in Ivory Coast, after losing 1-0 to Mauritania in a game played Tuesday at the Stade de la Paixin Bouake.
The Mauritanian goal was scored by centre-back Mohammed Dellahi in the first half to oust the two-time winners of the African Cup of Nations and advance to the next rounds of the tournament.
Algeria, which won AFCON in 1990 and 2019, came to the Ivory Coast with high hopes of gaining another title, but they were sent home without winning a single match adding frustration to embarrassment.
According to sports commentators, the Algerians were lacking cohesion and could have lost by more than one goal. The Algerian fans blame their highly paid coach Djamel Belmadi, their country’s football Federation and all decision-makers for the catastrophic results and the decline of sports which is suffering from mismanagement, corruption and political interference.
