Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug announced Mauritania’s pledge of $300,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to assist displaced individuals and victims of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The announcement was made on Monday, December 2, during a ministerial conference in Cairo focused on strengthening humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
In his remarks, Ould Merzoug called for intensified international action to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, stressing the need for a coordinated global response. He reaffirmed Mauritania’s solidarity with Gaza and underscored the urgency of addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict.
Condemning the violence in the region, Ould Merzoug described the ongoing attacks as “brutal massacres” committed by the Israeli occupation and demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities. He also praised the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in providing critical services to Palestinian refugees.
Reiterating Mauritania’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, Ould Merzoug highlighted the importance of robust international backing to ensure the delivery of timely humanitarian assistance, improve the living conditions of those affected, and foster conditions for lasting peace and stability.
The Cairo conference gathered foreign ministers and international stakeholders to address the intensifying humanitarian crisis in Gaza and mobilize additional resources for relief efforts. Mauritania’s contribution is part of broader appeals for increased aid, as the situation in Gaza remains dire amidst ongoing hostilities and displacement.
