A ceremony was held by the Diplomatic Foundation and the French Embassy in Morocco, in Rabat on Monday, to distribute funds from the Diplomatic Charity Gala to widows of Moroccan veterans who fought alongside French forces in France’s liberation but lacked official combatant status.
President of the Diplomatic Foundation, Abdelati Habek, highlighted that the ceremony is a tribute to Moroccan heroes who fought alongside French forces at the late King Mohammed V’s call, and recognizes their sacrifices in France’s history.
He announced that financial support was granted to 30 widows from different regions of the Kingdom, in honor of the memory of their late husbands who had not received the combatant’s card, an official recognition of their participation in the war alongside France.
An exhibition during the event featured documents and photographs of the courageous battles fought by those soldiers during World War I. It highlights the heroic sacrifices of 45,000 Moroccan soldiers who committed themselves to achieving the aspirations to freedom, dignity, and peace.
The event is part of the humanitarian Diplomatic Charity Gala initiative, held on January 24 under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI and the effective presidency of Princess Lalla Hasnaa. France was the guest of honor of the Gala.
