Somalia’s Danab Forces Kill 37 al-Shabaab Militants in Major Counter-Terror Operation

Somalia’s elite Danab special forces, in coordination with international allies, have killed more than 37 al-Shabaab militants in a strategic operation conducted in the village of Maqooqaha, west of Buulo Xaaji in the Lower Jubba region.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence released over the week-end, the operation specifically targeted senior operatives of the terrorist group, with further details on their identities to be released.
The ministry described the assault as a “carefully executed operation,” marking a significant blow to the group’s operational capacity in the region.
The Somali military reaffirmed its determination to sustain pressure on al-Shabaab, emphasising that the campaign to dismantle the group will persist across all fronts. The government praised the commitment of its forces, especially the Danab commandos, for their resolve in protecting civilians and advancing national stability. Somalia continues to face enduring security threats from both al-Shabaab and ISIS, with al-Shabaab having waged a violent insurgency for over 16 years, routinely targeting state officials and military personnel in a bid to destabilise the country.
