President Trump Reaffirms U.S. Recognition of Moroccan Sovereignty Over Western Sahara

In an official message addressed to King Mohammed VI, President of the United States, Donald Trump, reiterated Washington’s position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, dealing a hard blow to the enemies of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.

President Trump emphasized the United States’ support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, describing it as “serious, credible, and realistic,” and as the only basis for achieving a just and lasting solution to this regional dispute.

“I want to reaffirm that the United States of America recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, and that it supports the Autonomy Proposal as the only path to a fair and enduring resolution,” stated Mr. Trump in his message to the Sovereign on the occasion of Throne Day.

While acknowledging the historic ties between the two countries, the American President extended his congratulations to the King and the Moroccan people. He emphasized the importance the United States places on the strategic and long-standing partnership with Morocco. “Together, we are working to advance our shared priorities in regional peace and security, including through the Abraham Accords, counterterrorism efforts, and the development of our trade relations for the mutual benefit of our two peoples,” he declared.

President Trump concluded by expressing his desire to continue this bilateral cooperation to promote stability, security, and peace in the region.

Moreover, the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara now enjoys broad international support.

The majority of countries around the world support this position, with the notable exception of Algeria, which continues to support the Polisario Front.

This separatist movement, based in the Tindouf camps, receives financial, diplomatic, and military support from Algeria and is increasingly being discussed for possible designation on the U.S. and United Nations lists of terrorist organizations.
