AU Chief Demands Reparatory Justice at Africa-Caribbean Summit

African Union Commission chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has renewed over the week-end calls for reparatory justice, urging former colonial powers to acknowledge historic crimes and provide meaningful reparations.
Speaking in Addis Ababa at a Summit uniting African nations, Caribbean states, and the global African diaspora, Youssouf stressed that dismantling systemic injustice imposed on Africa and Caribbean communities was essential for genuine liberation. He reaffirmed the AU’s solidarity with the Caribbean in the joint pursuit of justice and freedom.
The two-day Africa-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) summit, held on 6–7 September, was designed to strengthen unity, deepen integration, and pursue reparations through a transcontinental partnership.
Building on the first summit in 2021, the gathering brought together Heads of State and Government to enhance collaboration between Africa and people of African descent worldwide.
The AU described the initiative as a crucial step in consolidating shared historical struggles into a common agenda for justice and development.
