Senegal’s ICS secures raw materials, targets higher fertilizer output despite global supply disruptions

Industries Chimiques du Sénégal (ICS) has confirmed it secured critical raw materials in advance of the Middle East conflict, insulating its production pipeline from ongoing global supply chain disruptions.

Director General Mama Sougoufara said on Tuesday, April 21 that the company began stockpiling inputs in December 2025 to guarantee fertilizer supply for Senegal and the wider West African agricultural sector during the current farming season.

He noted that the conflict and the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz have significantly disrupted global fertilizer supply chains, driving up prices—particularly for nitrogen-based fertilizers—and creating shortages of key inputs such as sulphur.

Despite these headwinds, ICS is projecting an ambitious production scale-up to approximately 125,000 tonnes in 2026, surpassing its 2025 record output of 105,000 tonnes achieved with government support.
