The United Nations has allocated nearly $98 million in emergency funding to support communities affected by conflict and climate-related disasters in Mozambique.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Catherine Sozi said on Monday, May 4, the funds will provide food, safe drinking water and healthcare to vulnerable populations, particularly those cut off from essential services.
Mozambique continues to grapple with overlapping crises, including an ongoing insurgency in Cabo Delgado Province, as well as severe flooding and cyclones in central and southern regions, which have displaced families and destroyed livelihoods.
The funding will also support emergency shelter and protection services, especially for women, children and those at risk of violence. It forms part of the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, which requires $534 million to assist 1.7 million people nationwide.
