Morocco cruised to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 3–0 victory over Canada, one of the co-hosts of the world sporting event.
In the match played on Saturday in Houston, Canada created better chances before halftime, but Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced a series of saves to keep the match scoreless at the break.
After halftime, Morocco returned with renewed momentum and took the lead in the 50th minute when Ounahi converted a pass from captain Achraf Hakimi. The midfielder doubled Morocco’s advantage in the 82nd minute from a Brahim Diaz assist, completing his brace.
The Atlas Lions comfortably saw out the match before Soufiane Rahimi sealed Morocco’s victory deep into stoppage time (90+8), scoring the third goal to complete an emphatic win.
The NRG Stadium in Houston that hosted the game was packed, with a large turnout of Moroccan and Canadian supporters creating a festive atmosphere. As usual, Morocco’s passionate fans made themselves heard well before kickoff and continued cheering relentlessly until the final whistle.
In the quarter-finals, Morocco will face the winner of the match between France and Paraguay to be played later this Saturday.
The quarter-final match will be played next Thursday in Boston, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. GMT.
