Angola is preparing to host an African Union (AU) summit focused on strengthening mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution across the continent.
In this context, an African Union’s delegation met in Luanda on Tuesday with Angolan authorities to assess the main organizational and technical aspects of the upcoming summit.
The summit, scheduled to take place in Luanda from 29 to 30 August 2026, will bring together African leaders who will discuss strategies for improving peacebuilding efforts, preventive diplomacy and responses to security challenges facing the continent.
Angolan authorities said preparations for the summit are aimed at promoting dialogue, mediation and peaceful solutions to conflicts at a time when several African regions continue to experience political instability and armed violence.
The initiative reflects Angola’s growing role in continental peace and security efforts, with the country seeking to support stronger African-led approaches to preventing conflicts before they escalate. The summit is expected to provide a platform for leaders to review existing peace and security frameworks and explore measures to enhance Africa’s capacity to address emerging crises.
