Portugal wants to contribute to diversification of Angolan economy

The Prime Minister of Portugal, António Luís Santos da Costa, said his second official visit to Angola “will be marked by the signing of the new 2023/2027 strategic cooperation program.

The visit to Angola, starting this Monday, will serve for Portugal to contribute to the diversification of the Angolan economy and will be marked by the signing of the new strategic cooperation program, the PM said.

António Costa defines these two objectives for his second two-day official visit to Angola – the first was in September 2018 – in a short video he recorded and published Sunday on the government portal.

The leader of the executive will be accompanied by the ministers of Finance, Fernando Medina; Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho; Economy, António Costa Silva; Agriculture, Maria do Céu Antunes; and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Francisco André.

The signing of the new strategic cooperation program 2023/2027, according to António Costa, represents “a concrete mark of the strengthening of cooperation between two friendly countries in a very high moment of Luso-Angolan relations”.

The new strategic program of cooperation between Portugal and Angola, to run until 2027, will be signed at a ceremony presided over by the Portuguese Prime Minister and the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

The visit, in António Costa’s perspective, will also be “a moment in which several companies will participate, following the economic forum held a month ago in Porto, with a view to contributing to the diversification of economic activity in Angola”.

At this point, the Portuguese Prime Minister points out that the diversification of the Angolan economy “is an ambition of the Angolan Government, it is an ambition of President João Lourenço. We want to meet this ambition, also opening new investment and growth opportunities for Portuguese companies,” he added.
