The Interior Ministry wants to investigate alleged irregularities involving phantom salary payments to security staff and protocol bodies of the Angolan Parliament.
The National Assembly of Angola announced on Sunday that the Ministry of Interior has opened an enquiry to investigate alleged irregularities involving phantom salary payments to elements linked to personal security and protocol entities.
In a statement, the Angolan parliament said it had been informed of a complaint about the introduction in the salary sheets of the Parliamentary Protection Unit and the Honour Guard Unit (UPP/UGH) of names of people that do not belong to them, and that it had referred the case to the competent bodies.
According to an anonymous complaint circulating on social networks, more than 300 people who do not belong to these structures receive monthly salaries and allowances from the National Assembly.
Although these two structures are an external body to the National Assembly, “given the seriousness of the situation described in the complaint, with criminal contours,” the case was presented to the Military House of the President of the Republic and the Office of the Minister of the Interior, “for the establishment of the facts and legal treatment,” according to the statement.
