Cape Verde’s Ministry of Finance is to carry out an inspection of the country’s Presidency, following the controversy over the First Lady’s salary and perks.
In a statement, the Cape Verdean government said that the Minister of Finance and Business Development, Olavo Correia, in his capacity as supervisory authority, has ordered an audit of the Presidency of the Republic, focusing on “personnel expenses”.
According to the same source, the action will cover the period between November 9, 2021, the date on which the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, took office, and the present date, “with the aim of clarifying the legality and regularity of personnel expenses”.
“In these terms, in the coming days, a team from the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) will be at the Presidency of the Republic to carry out the same,” concluded the note from the government, supported by the Movement for Democracy (MpD).
