Médecins Sans Frontières mourns death of employee in rebel raid in Mocímboa da Praia

The non-governmental organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) mourned this Sunday the death of a collaborator during an attack by rebels on Friday in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, near the town’s headquarters.
“We are grieving and very saddened by the loss of our colleague in this attack at such a young age (less than 30 years old). This colleague of ours was an active member of the community who was committed to helping save dozens of lives by spreading health promotion messages and identifying and referring patients to specialized care, including pregnant women and children,” says MSF’s emergency coordinator in Cabo Delgado, Marta Cazorla, quoted in a press release from the NGO.
The new attack took place at around 7 p.m. local time, in the community of Chimbanga, less than 50 kilometers from the district headquarters, in the town of Mocímboa da Praia, with at least three people killed and several homes destroyed.
According to MSF, in 2023, another worker was killed during an attack while traveling on public transport in the district of Macomia.
