In the second quarter of 2024, Angola imported food products worth $445.3 million (€403 million), a decrease of 12.6% from the previous quarter and 9.2% from the same period last year, according to official data.
The National Bank of Angola (BNA) reported on September 4 that food imports amounted to $509.9 million (€461 million) in the first quarter, down from $445.3 million in the second quarter. Compared to the same months in 2023, when $490.8 million was spent, the total volume of food imports for April, May, and June 2024 also declined by 9.2%.
The BNA’s quarterly figures reveal that expenditures on machinery and equipment rose significantly, reaching $816.5 million (€738 million) in the second quarter, a 102% increase from the previous quarter. Other major imports included fuel at $765.3 million (up $30.3 million from the previous quarter), construction and building materials at $324.9 million, and vehicles and their parts at $232.6 million.
