Nigeria Reveals 5-Year Strategy to Combat Organized Crime

Nigeria revealed on Monday a five-year national strategy to fight organized crime, through dismantling criminal networks, disrupting illicit financial flows and strengthening cooperation among relevant institutions.

The national security adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, stated that this strategy, covering the period from 2027 to 2031, provides an integrated framework to combat terrorism, human trafficking, narco-trafficking, cybercrime, maritime crime and illicit money flows, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Nuhu Ribadu, who was represented by the National Counter-Terrorism Center’s National Coordinator, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, underlined that the new strategy adopts a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, with emphasis on strengthened inter-agency work and collaboration with international partners.

The Nigerian official stated that the success of this strategy is contingent to its rigorous implementation, calling on all stakeholders to show further commitment, diligence and foster greater collaboration.
