In his Christmas message, Cape Verde’s Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva reaffirmed his commitment to improving citizens’ quality of life, prioritizing employment, income, health, and transport in the coming year.
“While challenges persist and many families face difficulties, improving quality of life remains a legitimate expectation for all. We are working to uplift the poorest and the middle class alike”, he promised.
He emphasized that creating jobs, reducing poverty, eliminating extreme poverty, and protecting the vulnerable remain central to Government policies, with plans to intensify efforts. “Next year holds positive expectations for job creation, family income, health services, and transport improvements”, he added.
The Prime Minister extended his thoughts to those facing hardships during the festive season, including patients, prisoners, and others separated from their families. “Christmas is a time to reflect on the society we are building for our children and commit to their future,” he noted, highlighting Cape Verde’s resilience as it approaches 50 years of independence.
Reflecting on past challenges, he praised collective efforts to overcome crises, relaunch the economy, and enhance social protection. He also sent greetings to diaspora communities, many of whom are home for the holidays, and recognized the importance of family during Christmas.
“Cape Verde’s struggles and achievements strengthen our confidence in a brighter future. It’s a shared responsibility—government, municipalities, citizens, businesses, civil society, and the diaspora must all contribute”, he concluded.
