Guinea has commenced its fourth General Population and Housing Census (RGPH-4), a four-week national exercise aimed at gathering up-to-date demographic and housing data to support effective policy design and implementation.
Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah officially launched the initiative over the week-end, urging all residents—including foreign nationals—to cooperate fully and provide accurate information. Over 23,000 trained enumerators have been deployed across the country to carry out the data collection, which is overseen by the National Institute of Statistics.
Government officials have emphasised the strategic importance of the census in strengthening state sovereignty and enhancing policy efficiency. Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Ismael Nabe, described the census as a critical tool for monitoring and adjusting national development strategies. The World Bank, represented by Mamadou Saliou Diallo, reaffirmed its support for the initiative on behalf of Guinea’s technical and financial partners, highlighting the importance of reliable data in achieving sustainable growth and governance.
