Sudan: RSF Shells Hospital in Sudan’s North Darfur, Killing 12 Civilians

At least 12 civilians were killed and 17 others injured on Wednesday, 08 October 2025 when Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled the El-Fasher Hospital in North Darfur, local medical officials reported. Among the wounded were a female doctor and a member of the nursing staff, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. The group condemned the attack as a “full-fledged war crime” and an egregious violation of international humanitarian law protecting medical personnel and facilities. It urged the United Nations Security Council and the international community to act swiftly to halt continued assaults on hospitals and civilian homes, warning of the collapse of El-Fasher’s already fragile health system.
The RSF, which has besieged El-Fasher since 10 May 2024, has yet to comment on the latest incident. The city, a critical hub for humanitarian operations across the five Darfur states, has been under growing strain amid the ongoing conflict between the RSF and Sudanese army forces. Fighting that began in mid-April 2023 has killed more than 20,000 people and displaced around 15 million, according to UN and local sources. However, research by American universities places the death toll significantly higher, estimating approximately 130,000 fatalities since the conflict erupted.
