Libya and Tunisia Agree to Develop Roadmap for Stronger Economic Cooperation

Libya and Tunisia have agreed to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to enhance bilateral economic collaboration and stimulate cross-border trade. The accord was reached during a meeting in Tunis on October 23 between Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hweij, and Tunisia’s Minister of Trade and Export Development, Samir Abid.

The discussions followed up on recommendations from the Libyan–Tunisian Joint Trade Committee, which last convened in Tripoli in December 2024. Senior officials from both nations’ customs and export authorities attended the talks, which focused on boosting investment, facilitating business operations, and promoting technology exchange.

Both sides underscored the need to diversify exports, expand trade volumes, and strengthen cooperation in accessing African markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The proposed roadmap aims to enhance competitiveness, foster sustainable development, and deepen economic ties between the two North African neighbors. The move marks a renewed commitment to advancing regional integration and economic stability through shared growth initiatives and coordinated policy frameworks.
