South Africa and Mozambique have concluded the 4th Session of their Bi-National Commission (BNC) on Wednesday, 3rd December, with a renewed commitment to deepen cooperation, strengthen economic ties, and promote shared prosperity.
Speaking in Maputo alongside President Daniel Chapo, President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted the historic and strategic nature of the bilateral relationship, emphasising the importance of translating agreements into tangible benefits for citizens. The session reviewed progress since 2022, signed new Memoranda of Understanding, and identified opportunities for investment and collaboration across sectors, including energy, mining, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, telecommunications, health, and financial services.
The leaders also underscored the significance of defence and security cooperation, particularly in border management, as a foundation for stability and economic growth. Public-private partnerships were showcased through the launch of a major Sasol gas processing facility in Inhambane Province, illustrating practical outcomes of bilateral collaboration. Both presidents stressed that the relationship goes beyond diplomacy, reflecting a historic cultural brotherhood, and pledged continued efforts to strengthen ties, setting the stage for further progress in the 5th BNC session to be held in South Africa.
