Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has called on private sector investors to collaborate with African Governments in accelerating the continent’s health industrialization agenda.
Addressing the opening of the World Health Expo Leaders Africa Summit in Accra on Tuesday, December 9, he emphasised the need for a new partnership model anchored in co-investment, innovation, and shared purpose.
He urged vaccine manufacturers, pharmaceutical firms, diagnostic innovators, and biotechnology companies to establish production hubs, assembly plants, and research centres across Africa to strengthen health systems and improve access to essential medical products.
President Mahama noted that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed Africa’s vulnerability and reinforced the urgency of building resilient, self-reliant health infrastructure. He highlighted the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area, the continent’s growing innovation ecosystem, and the regulatory support of the African Medicines Agency.
Expressing confidence in Africa’s young innovators and digital health entrepreneurs, he said their creativity and technological prowess could anchor a new health order for the continent. The summit has brought together health officials from across Africa and representatives of continental health institutions.
