Ms. Christine Lagarde, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will visit Rwanda from 26th to 29th January, 2015, and Senegal from 29th to 31st January, 2015, to meet with policy makers and other representatives of the society in each country. According to a statement released by the IMF communications department.
“My visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen the IMF partnership with Rwanda and Senegal, two countries that have seen successfull in building strong, stable, and inclusive economies in the world’s second fastest-growing region,” Ms. Lagarde said ahead of her trip.
“Rwanda over the past 20 years has emerged as an African economic success story, demonstrating real progress in achieving high levels of growth and poverty reduction. Senegal has put in place an ambitious program to accelerate growth and lay the foundations for a more diversified economy.”
According to the statement, Ms. Lagarde will meet in Kigali, Rwandan President Paul Kagame and other senior policy makers. In Dakar, she will meet President Macky Sall and his team.
“In each country she will also meet business leaders, parliamentarians, prominent women, and representatives of the business communities and civil society. She will deliver speeches to the Parliaments of each country, and in Senegal will meet senior officials of the Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO)” said the statement.
“Over the last 20 years, Rwanda has become an example of economic success in Africa, achieving real progress as reflected in high rates of growth and poverty reduction,” said Christine Lagarde.
As Executive Director of the IMF, Lagarde has visited several African countries including South Africa, Ivory Coast, sKenya, Mauritius, Mali and Malawi, the statement has said.
