Ghana Activates Emergency Evacuation Plan for Citizens in Middle East

The Government of Ghana has activated an emergency preparedness plan to evacuate its nationals from the Middle East should conditions deteriorate, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a travel advisory issued over the week-end.

The ministry said it is currently assessing the number of Ghanaians who may require evacuation. As part of initial measures, some staff of Ghana’s embassy in Tehran have been withdrawn, while essential personnel remain to coordinate assistance for citizens in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Ghanaian nationals in the region have been urged to avoid non-essential travel and to comply strictly with directives from local authorities. Those in affected areas are advised to remain indoors where possible, avoid large gatherings and sensitive locations, monitor official communications, keep travel documents accessible, and maintain contact with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission.

The government further appealed to all parties involved in the Middle East tensions to exercise restraint, de-escalate hostilities, and return to diplomatic engagement in the interest of safeguarding lives, economic stability and lasting regional peace.
