Cameroon has announced its readiness to host the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), scheduled to take place in the capital, Yaoundé, from March 26 to 29.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 11, Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, said the government had undertaken sustained preparations to ensure the global trade meeting proceeds smoothly. He noted that hosting the conference for the first time presents a significant opportunity for the country and authorities are determined to make the event a success.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Acting Minister of Tourism and Leisure Gabriel Mbairobe inspected facilities designated for the conference, indicating that Cameroon is expecting more than 4,000 delegates and visitors.
The gathering will bring together trade ministers from across the world to deliberate on challenges and opportunities within the multilateral trading system and shape the future agenda of the WTO.
The conference will be chaired by Cameroon’s Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.
Held every two years since 1996, the WTO Ministerial Conference is the organisation’s highest decision-making body.
