Ghana Introduces Temporary Fuel Subsidy to Ease Price Pressures from Middle East Conflict

The Government of Ghana has announced temporary measures to cushion consumers against rising fuel prices linked to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu said the state will absorb 2.00 cedis per litre of diesel and 0.36 cedis per litre of petrol. The intervention follows consultations with industry stakeholders to remove selected taxes and charges across the fuel supply chain.

The decision, which takes effect from April 16, will remain in place for one month, subject to review.

Officials say the initiative is aimed at maintaining price stability and supporting economic recovery. Current prices, according to GOIL, stand at 13.30 cedis per litre for petrol and 17.10 cedis per litre for diesel. Authorities indicated they will continue to monitor global market trends and may introduce further measures if necessary.
