Zimbabwe and Botswana deepen bilateral ties with new agreements at Harare Summit

Zimbabwe and Botswana on Wednesday, April 23 signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation across key sectors during the fifth session of the Zimbabwe-Botswana Bi-National Commission held in Harare.

The accords, overseen by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Botswana counterpart Duma Boko, cover defence, trade and investment, immigration, small business development, aviation safety, and correctional services.

In a joint communiqué, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening mutually beneficial relations, including collaboration on the Museum of African Liberation project, while stepping up efforts to combat cross-border crimes such as livestock theft. They also highlighted ongoing investments in transport corridors and border infrastructure to ease the movement of people, goods and services between the two countries.

Mnangagwa commended Botswana’s stance on the removal of Western sanctions on Zimbabwe, while both nations pledged to advocate for global recognition of Africa’s approach to sustainable wildlife utilisation in international conservation policy.
