Ghana’s economy grows by 6% in second quarter of 2026

Ghana’s economy expanded by 6.0% year on year in the second quarter of 2026, slightly below the 6.6% recorded during the same period in 2025.

Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu said the information and communications technology sector grew by 30.9%, up from 21.3% a year earlier, and contributed 41.5% of the overall expansion.

The latest performance follows provisional economic growth of 6.4% in the first quarter of 2026 as Ghana continues to recover from one of its most severe economic crises in decades. Mr Iddrisu described the growth rate as encouraging but stressed that its benefits must translate into better jobs, improved services and broader economic opportunities.

The Government maintained its main macroeconomic targets during its mid-year budget review in July, citing stronger-than-anticipated economic performance in the first half of 2026.

In the same month, the International Monetary Fund completed the final review of Ghana’s $3 billion support programme, noting that economic reforms and favourable commodity prices were supporting stability and reducing debt-related risks.

Annual consumer inflation also declined to 5.0% last month, compared with 54.1% in December 2022, when Ghana was experiencing a severe debt crisis.
