Nigerian troops rescued 23 abducted people during separate counterterrorism operations in Sokoto State on Sunday, the military announced on Monday.
The operations were conducted in the Wurno, Sabon-Birni and Isa local government areas, according to Aliyu Danja, spokesperson for the military-led Joint Task Force in north-western Nigeria.
Four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group were arrested after troops responded to an emergency call and repelled an attack in Sabon Gari, Wurno. The assailants allegedly fired indiscriminately, forcing residents to flee.
Troops also conducted an intelligence-led raid in Sabon-Birni targeting suspected terrorists moving between locations. Danja said the operations demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led military action in disrupting terrorist activities and rescuing abducted people.
