The United Nations on Monday, September 21, expressed deep concern over Ethiopia’s deteriorating security situation, citing the formation of a new coalition of armed groups, persistent insecurity and reported drone strikes.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, urged all parties to avoid actions and rhetoric that could escalate tensions and instead return to dialogue. “Military action will not resolve political differences or address underlying grievances,” he told reporters.
Dujarric said the UN remained committed to supporting African Union-led efforts to ease tensions and advance the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement.
