More than 100 people were killed and 113 injured in a Sudanese military drone strike on a busy market in Nyala, South Darfur, on Monday evening, October 26, according to rights group Emergency Lawyers.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 27, the group said many of the victims were women and children and called for an independent investigation into the attack.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) separately reported receiving 36 bodies at its hospital in Nyala and treating about 150 injured people in its emergency room.

Nyala is controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been fighting the Sudanese military since April 2023. The conflict has triggered the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with about 34 million people requiring assistance, according to the United Nations. Both sides have increasingly used drones in attacks that have hit civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, markets and displacement camps.
