King Mohammed VI has sent a message of congratulations to the Senegalese President, Macky Sall, after the Lions of Terranga were crowned African champions on Sunday at the end of the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN).
Senegal defeated Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations championship match on Sunday, winning the continental championship for the first time on penalty kicks at Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
“I have the pleasure of extending to you, as well as to all the Senegalese people, my warm congratulations for the great victory won by the Senegalese national team, during the final of the 33rd edition of the Africa Nations Football Championship held in Cameroon,” the royal message states.
“I would like to applaud the Lions of Senegal who, thanks to their rigor, their tenacity and their great quality of play, were able to lift the African Champions trophy and mark the history of Senegalese football with a white stone, making unanimously the happiness of your Nation”, adds the message.
