Morocco will face Croatia in the third place play-off on Saturday at Qatar’s world cup 2022 after they were defeated 2-0 by defending champions France.
After a slow start with both teams feeling their way into the game, French striker Theo Hernandez opened the score in the 5th minute. In the 2nd half, the Atlas lions increased the pressing but French Randal Kolo Muani scored with his first touch in the 79th minute.
Morocco dominated possession without reversing the final score. France are one game away from making history; Morocco have already done that after having reached the world cup semi-finals.
Morocco is the first Arab and African team to make it this far in the global soccer tournament, setting the bar so high.
After a goalless draw with Croatia in their opening match, the Atlas Lions defeated Belgium (2-0) and Canada 2-1 to take the lead of their group. Later on, Morocco knocked out Spain on penalty kicks (3-0) and then Portugal (1-0) to advance to the semifinals.
