The commercialization campaign for cashew nuts in Guinea-Bissau has already begun and the government has set the reference price for buying the cashew from the producer at 375 cfa (about 0.57 euros) per kilogram, according to sources in the Guinea-Bissau government.
The 2023 cashew campaign began on March 31 and the price set for this year is exactly the same as last year. In 2022, Guinea-Bissau exported 185 thousand tons, with 55 thousand tons retained, 26 thousand of which were exported between January and February this year, according to data released by the Guinean press.
The International Monetary Fund noted in March that economic growth in 2022 in Guinea-Bissau, which stood at 3.5 percent, was affected due to a decrease in cashew nut exports. More than 80% of the Guinean population depends directly or indirectly on the marketing campaign for cashew nuts, the country’s main export product.
