Chad, CAR running joint offensive to curb banditry in north CAR

The Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad are conducting joint military campaign in north of CAR to weed out bandits sowing insecurity, reports say.

The campaign which kicked off on May 14 is conducted in Paoua sub-prefecture, Chadian Defense minister General Daoud Yaya Brahima was quoted by the media as saying.

A dozen of bandits have been killed and 23 others have been arrested as part of the campaign.

Yaya Brahima indicated that joint military action has been launched after several attacks by the bandits in the province of Eastern Logone, in southern Chad, where they caused numerous civilian casualties and looted livestock.

The Chadian official indicated that the campaign will head on till the elimination of all bandits.
