Morocco, Italy Sign Action Plan for Implementation of Multidimensional Strategic Partnership

The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Italy signed, on Wednesday in Rome, the action Plan for the implementation of the multidimensional strategic Partnership.

Through this action Plan, Morocco and Italy reaffirm their desire, expressed in the Joint Declaration signed on November 1, 2019 in Rabat, to place bilateral relations within the framework of a multidimensional strategic Partnership, geared towards ongoing dialogue and concrete, mutually beneficial cooperation.

The action Plan focuses mainly, but not exclusively, on political and diplomatic dialogue, security and justice cooperation, and economic, energy and sustainable development cooperation.

It also covers cooperation in the fields of culture, universities, research and development, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, as well as cooperation on migration and consular issues.

The action plan for the implementation of the multidimensional strategic partnership between Morocco and Italy provides for the establishment of a Partnership Council and related committees.

The partnership Council is established at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and will convene annually, alternating between Rabat and Rome, to monitor and define priority areas of cooperation and draw up recommendations, assess progress made over the past year, and promote and strengthen cooperation for the coming year. If necessary, it can be opened up to the participation of other ministers.

The Committees, for their part, are made up of senior officials, who will meet to ensure the follow-up and implementation of the Partnership Council’s recommendations.

They are the Committee for political and diplomatic dialogue, the Committee for cooperation on international peace and security, the Committee for cooperation on justice, the Committee for economic, energy and sustainable development cooperation, the Committee for cultural, academic, research and development cooperation and intercultural and interfaith dialogue, and the Committee for migration and consular affairs.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, is paying a working visit to Italy this Wednesday, July 05, at the invitation of his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. This is Bourita’s first visit to Italy after Tajani’s appointment, in October 2022, as vice-president of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic.
