Sudan: Washington accuses rival factions of “war crimes”

War crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan. This is the conclusion of the US State Department. The two camps that have been battling for power since April 15 have been targeted. One more than the other.
“Sudanese armed forces and rapid support forces have unleashed horrific violence, death, and destruction across Sudan”. The beginning of Antony Blinken’s communiqué puts the protagonists in the war for control of Sudan on opposite sides. He details the atrocities committed by both sides. He speaks of violence and the murder of prisoners in detention sites on both sides.
For General Hemedti’s Rapid Support Forces and his allied militias, Antony Blinken adds a campaign of terror against women and girls through sexual violence, attacking them in their homes, abducting them in the street, or attacking those who tried to flee to safety. He also refers to targeted violence against survivors of the genocide in Darfur 20 years ago.
The forces of General al-Burhan and General Hemedti are both accused of war crimes. The US Secretary of State added crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing against the Rapid Support Forces. And he claims that these findings give new urgency and strength to African and international efforts to end the violence.
