Moroccan football receives distinctions at CAF 2023 Awards

The African football federation CAF held its 2023 Awards ceremony Monday in Marrakech, where Moroccan football was celebrated for its outstanding performance continentally and globally.

Coach Walid Regragui was crowned CAF’s Best Coach of the Year in the Men’s category, in recognition for his leadership and for leading Morocco to a memorable World Cup semi-final run in Qatar.

Morocco also won the Men’s National Team award following the performance of the Atlas Lions in Qatar.

Yassine Bounou received the Goalkeeper of the Year award. During Qatar World Cup, he was twice voted man of the match. At club level, he won the Europa League with Sevilla. An exceptional year which ended with a transfer to Saudi Arabia last summer.

Moroccan football prospered in 2022 and 2023 thanks to a carefully devised strategy that led the county to the quarter finals in Qatar’s World Cup and outstanding achievements in female soccer, futsal, U-17 and U-23, not to mention its successful bids to host the African Cup of Nations in 2025 and the World Cup in 2030, FIFA reported.
