Morocco was re-elected by an overwhelming majority to the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council, in a vote that reflects the standing the country enjoys in the international community.
Mahjoub El Haiba will be representing Morocco at the UN Human Rights Committee, subsidiary body of the Human Rights Council composed of 18 experts.
Fifteen candidates were contending with El Haiba to the nine vacant positions for the period 2025-2028.
El Haiba, currently a university professor, boasts a long career in the field of human rights. He previously held the positions of Secretary General of the Advisory Council for Human Rights (now the National Human Rights Council) and First Inter-ministerial Delegate for Human Rights.
